Hm. 6419901 looks rather like something I wrote.

This is a really serious issue. I find that I simply can't do any real work
on an SXCE or OpenSolaris based system as a result. Having to remember
to hit an extra key is counterintuitive and a significant detriment to
productivity, not to mention all the swearing at the machine when you forget
and get random characters splattered into your window and end up inputting
the wrong command.

I'm still using Solaris 10 for any real work as it doesn't have this
bug and offers
a much better experience as a result.
