Seems some object to using LGPL for docs and PDL is subject to California law which can be an impediment to non-US contributions. So what can we use? I would like to see CC added to the list at least but is this possible?
I am not aware of constraints on the PDL, but then I have not followed this list's discussions. Our license policy, which promotes the LGPL (via JCA) and PDL satisfies quite a lot of contributors. If some few nevertheless wish not to use those licenses for editable work they wish to donate to OOo, then I regret to say that would be their not our problem. One may still contribute to the larger OOo community: OOoDocs was created, for instance, to host documents licensed under GPL and other doc. projects serve a similar function.
The CC is an option *only* for noneditable work. We describe the policy on the CC here: http://www.openoffice.org/about_us/ protocols_proposing.html. I am actually surprised at this query: we've had long and public discussions on license regimes and have settled on the ones we advocate after extensive discussions.
best, Louis
