'no longer' ?  ldap and gzip were never part of the 1.3 bundle.
have you not seen apachetoolbox.com?  according the site "63 3rd party
modules" are included.  are you suggesting we add all of those to the
httpd-2.0 bundle to "keep things simple"?  that project solves the
problems you site here, i assume they will do the same for 2.0 once it is
released.

anyhow, you've totally missed my point.  my only concern is timing.  i'm
not at suggesting which modules should or should not be part of the core.
i'm only saying it should have been decided long ago which modules are
going into the 2.0 core.  anything else should wait for 2.1+.
