Hi Sophie and all,
I haven't given news for a long time and I'm really sorry about that...
Now I see that you're talking about SunGloss so I have to wake up!
I'm happy that my mail make you wake up ;)
For those who don't know me yet, I'm Language Lead for French at Sun
which means that I work with translation agencies to ensure translation
quality and use of the proper terminology.
Elsa and Brigitte learn me all about localization and the glossary they
have made was more than helpful, a real tool.
SunGloss is the reference translators use for all Sun translations, I
update the French SunGloss with new words and review old translations
regularly.
Unfortunately, as I told in my previous mail, for OOo, it's not updated
anymore with the English word/strings, so in the next future, we will
even loose the trace of the new strings introduced in our product. My
concern is here, I don't want that all this work to be loose, for our
community but also for other open source communities who use SunGloss.
Of course, I know that SunGloss is not perfect and I understand all the
drawbacks André has mentioned.
But I think it's important to have a reliable reference for Sun
terminology and, as a matter of fact, SunGloss exists and could
certainly be more helpful if we would extend it with Community input.
I fully agree here, and have as more languages as possible in it :)
We could work together and find a solution in order to maintain and
leverage this glossary (at least for French).
Thank you very much Elsa :) I'd like other communities also to have the
same chance the FR project had. I don't know exactly how to achieve it,
but I'm sure that with all of us, we will be able to draw a good solution.
I would be eager to help!
Thanks again!
Kind regards
Sophie
