what about 1.0.0-M5-SNAPSHOT ? That makes it at least a little bit more obvious where the current direction is, IMO Regarding the 1.0.0 is out after M5, is there a roadmap or so ? Once the "official" 1.0.0 is out, using the 1.0.x-SNAPSHOT pattern is fine.
