Hi,

That's not always an advantage. At least on other platforms Sun
doesn't do clean builds from scratch, but "incremental" build where
they keep old output trees. This might speed up things, but also lead
to unexpected side-effects/hide builds in the buildprocess.
That is still advantage.
My customers and I demand a software application that works properly.

Mac is just one of the platforms.
They have been working on the build process as a professional for decades
and they know what they should do in the area of release engineering.
Maho's build
- Built by one voluntary contributor working in this area
for a year or so.
Wrong. Maho builds for Mac much longer than a year. 3 years should be
more accurate.
Look at this thread.
http://www.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?list=releases&msgNo=12460
That implies that he does not conduct the test, even a sanity test --
installing and starting up a product -- at all before uploading his builds.
See above. Sun doesn't take responsibility either. It is the job of QA
to ensure that there are no critical stoppers.
- Who is Maho?
Who are you? Who is Pavel? Why does that matter?
Because I must be accountable for the risk of software to my customers.
If I install a freely available as-is software application in a computer
within intra-net and some confidential information on our customers get
leaked to the Internet by the application, who should pay for the damage.
So I cannot use such a software application that is released by an
unknown person within my intra-net. I cannot offer it to my customers.
Please do not misunderstand. I do not blame Maho's work. His work is
highly appreciated. His efforts have made the quality of Mac improved.
However, Maho's personal builds currently done by solely one person, not
by a team, have not yet reached at the level of official builds of the
OpenOffice.org community. That is my current thoughts.
ciao,
Tora
