Hi Christian, and all...

I suggest removing the young seagull+egg image and replace it with something more hypermedia like... (minimum: make the image link to the end use products page... and some link below that to developer oriented products (since the latter are missing now on our home page, which is seriously undervaluing the work done for making OOo a true developing platform). I do believe however that 'consumer' oriented office suite products should get a bit more attention...

I suggest using the area now used for the image for the end user products, and the area below the image for development products or other products. In this schema maybe we can use either the grown up seagull I recently attached to http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=53997 ... or some different. I have something in mind with some OOo-suite box, together with the grown up seagull as a link to the suite-products page ( http://www.openoffice.org/product/index.html ).

Another suggestion - which was what I was thinking of in the first place: trim down the number of end user products listed on the home page (limit it to Writer, Calc, Impress and Base), add a vertical seperator line , and design an attractive program icon (maybe it exists already?) for the two major developer oriented products: the UDK and the SDK (maybe combined as stuff for developers). The icon should really be distinct from the program icons now used... so that it won't be confused with the suite-products.

Well, that is my output for now... my time is short, though I really would like to work on this some more...

g.,

Maarten

I'd prefer one button - approx. the size of the current buttons - maybe
instead of the seagull image two additional buttons:
* one for the OOo-Office-suite products
* one for the "developer"-products
[...]
If anybody has an idea on how to graphically represent these two
categories, I'll try to make a mockup..

I thought of a desk for the Suite products-button and maybe gears or
bricks for the developer-button.
Comments?
Again, I like this idea but I am not graphically inclined. Would it be too cutesy to have seagull icons engaged in them? No good ideas from me though.
Please ask at the art project ([email protected]) if there is someone interested in designing such icons.

Since the urge to come up with something better is bigger when a mediocre
or bad solution exists already, I did a quick mockup with two buttons :-)

Even if some of us are working on an update of our logo files (we'll need "OpenOffice.org 2" instead of "OpenOffice.org 2.0" from next week on), there are others having perhaps some free time...

Let's see whether somebody cannot ignore the itching :-)

ciao
Christian
