Yes, having an additional button... Now we have 3 major buttons, the main logo an the prduct links With the suggested buttons (to replace the individual product links and to add one for the "other products") we 'll have 5 buttons to dominate the scene. IMHO the better solution is to add links to the contributing page on These other portal pages. Having the link on a project page just makes more sense to me.
