That's sensible enough. However, just so that everyone knows, the services
you listed (netatalk, lpd, samba) each have two or three barriers between
the Internet and the services - a packet filter, access control lists (TCP
wrappers, and selective binding to the internal interface.

News servers are a real can of worms - very difficult to manage. They can
chew up all your bandwidth, disk space and peace of mind if you are not
very careful.
Be very sure that you need one before installing. Consider using something
like leafnode or nntpcache rather than INN.
