[Now why did this come out reversed?]
Export file formats is just a question of people writing them, nothing
magic there. Rotation has been asked about before -- basically, X does not
rotate text (or, I think, rectangles and ellipses). One solution would be
to write into a buffer, then rotate the buffer, but the results are rarely
pretty. I'm not quite sure what you mean by 'shade areas'? Compound
objects are created from the objects that are selected, which can be done
manually or by selecting an area (would like to have Select All, Select
Inverse, Select by Type and such, though).

That's just why I came to Dia. Between all the developers, and especially
Alex and James, we've managed to get quite far.
