Note that dia is mainly designed for structured graphics (that is, network
diagrams, flowcharts, UML diagrams, etc). Programs which are straight
vector graphics editors will probably always be better for this sort of
work.
One such program you may want to look at is sketch. For more low level
vector graphics, it may be a better choice than dia at the moment.
