Hi, A board meeting was taken last week, where no one with any IT experience was sitting, in which it was "decided" that we would be moving our email to Microsoft exchange ... we were bought out beginning of last year and they don't understand our existing system.
The IT Director is currently trying to work out why or how this was decided with no technical merit, but I need to look into the options as quick as I can so that I can work out a possible solution. I hate the idea of taking our nice Dovecot/procmail system and replacing it with an Exchange server, but if it is deemed from "above" that this is how we have to proceed we will have to install one. We have a system of "internal" mail servers and "external" mail servers, so we would look into keeping all the existing "external" stuff, and just swapping in for the internal servers. To run Exchange I am aware that I need an Active Directory. I currently run an OpenLDAP NS, talking via Samba 3 to our windows systems. I am aware that Samba 4 is supposed to be an almost drop in replacement for Active Directory (although I have no experience) the question(s) (after my long ramble): Can Samba 4 work as an Active Directory replacement for Exchange? Can Samba 4 work as an Active Directory replacement on Illumos? Ta.
