Sharing a remote is easy -- both slimserver and myth (well, LIRC) have fully customizable IR interfaces.
As for an off-screen interface for myth, well, I can't really see why you'd want that -- you've already got the TV on to watch TV, so the OSD interface seems quite natural to me.
