If windows is mounting the device's cards as drives you aren't in the right mode for the upgrade. Make sure to follow the directions on the Windows wizard precisely...it goes something like "launch wizard, connect usb cable, *then* power on the 800 while holding home key...etc.". If you just connect the 800 while it's already booted to the OS the upgrade will not work.
