I'm seeing the same problems with displacement of search and options boxes using Safari 3.1.1 and Firefox 3.0b5 on Mac OS X (the behaviour is the same in both browsers - it looks like about 80 pixels).
Mousing over the Search This Thread box on the way to the Search box causes it to disappear, too - I have to go around it if I want the Search box to stay on screen.
