Am 03. Sep, 2010 schwätzte Charles Jones so:

I *constantly* see various tech job openings for GoDaddy. In the past I
heard that they were terrible to work for and that the constant job postings
were due to high turnover as their people would get fed up of the bad
environment and leave.

Part of the reason for constant hiring is that GoDaddy has been expanding.
Some of the expansion has been for the new tax software ( the industry
where Parsons originally made his money ). Part of the hiring is probably
due to turnover. I've met a few people who like working at GoDaddy. I've
met lots of people who found GoDaddy to be a horrid work place.

As I understand it, a worker's experience depends on the job. Customer
support workers are essentially expendable sales droids with lots of
metrics, quotas and general big brother style oversight. I'm told sales
droids go through lots of turnover due to firings and being able to find a
better job.

Sysadmins seem to stick around longer and seem to be more likely to like
working there. Many are happy to have any job in the current economy. I
have met several sysadmins who were very unhappy with working there. Most
that were unhappy with GoDaddy had also been fired.

I currently know one person who's been there a while and he seems to be
happy.

In the economy of the last few years GoDaddy has been one of the few
places in the area to be constantly hiring. That does give it leverage
as to who it hires and how it treats employees.

Yet, on GoDaddys postings on Dice, Monster, etc, they tout receiving an
award for "Best places to work in the Valley" for six consecutive years -
maybe that is just for sales positions?

Parsons has a reputation for screaming at people, sudden outbursts of
anger and rash firings.

I'm told he has a very good reputation as a businessman. He has lots of
contacts in the local business community. He's one of the few people
who've been bringing jobs and money into the local community. Local
business associations and chamber of commerce like him, so that might
affect rankings.
