I can't speak to the GoDaddy set of awards. Some of these "best places" awards 
involve individuals at each company doing a write up of how great they are. I 
know, because I was asked to participate in one. 


Analogous to how local politics is the one that matters most, the local 
environment, with particular emphasis on the specific boss you have, makes all 
the difference in the world. There may be benefits, location appeal,  or 
compensation structures e.g., that institutiaonally make one company a better 
place to work than others, and influences these "Better places to work" lists 
one way or the other. But IMO the specific boss you get is going to affect 50% 
of your job satisfaction. Especially if it's a particularly good or bad 
boss_person.
