I'm sorry I couldn't get back to you until today but I had to wait for her answer. She says that they installed the necessary update for the device and that the box in universal access was checked. GW Micro isn't getting back to her and Apple ran out of suggestions. I just e-mailed her, but will call if I get a response from here, since she can use a phone. I asked her if I had permission to give her email (offlist) if there's anyone here willing to work with her directly. Alternatively, would someone here be willing to give permission to me to pass your info onto her? She's really freaking out about this and any help would really be appreciated.
