Hi, it's the same hardware, though the firmware may be slightly
different. I very much doubt it, but in any case, the gw syncbraille
is definitely documented by apple accessibility as being compadible,
so it really should work.

Is this the same beast as the HIMS SyncBraille? If so, I've tried
two of them, the 20 cell and the 32 cell versions, and both worked
perfectly as soon as I connected them to my MacBook via USB.

Hi, Fraid it's nt totally surprising gw's not providing support in
this particular case. The sync braille is just about the easiest
most basic braille display you can get. It surprises me the thing
doesn't just fly.
Has this unit ever worked on a windows machine?
Well, I'm not sure how much help I can be as I haven't gotten to
use the sync braille yet, but I work for a distributer here in
Toronto. I'll help via email or over the phone if I can, and
possibly try to bluggen my way in with the reseller card to get
support if all else fails.

I'm sorry I couldn't get back to you until today but I had to wait
for
her answer. She says that they installed the necessary update for
the
device and that the box in universal access was checked. GW Micro
isn't getting back to her and Apple ran out of suggestions. I just
e-mailed her, but will call if I get a response from here, since she
can use a phone. I asked her if I had permission to give her email
(offlist) if there's anyone here willing to work with her directly.
Alternatively, would someone here be willing to give permission to
me
to pass your info onto her? She's really freaking out about this
and
any help would really be appreciated.
Thanks,

Ok guys. my best friend is deafblind and so she can't use
VoiceOver
that well. She recently got a Syncbraille to work with her
Macbook
running Leopard. When she connects it it doesn't recognise the
display. It says braille display dimmed. She tried connecting
other
usb devices and it works just fine with those. She's also done
all
the updates. How can she fix this problem. Please contact me
