You need two things:

- Xcode (available in the Mac App Store) - this will give you the tools
needed to build software from source
- Homebrew (http://mxcl.github.com/homebrew/) - this is similar to fink or
MacPorts, but IMHO much better

Then do something like:

> sudo easy_install pip
> sudo pip install virtualenv
> virtualenv /path/to/project/env
> /path/to/project/env/bin/activate
> pip install pyodbc mysqldb psycopg2

And possibly:

> brew install mysql postgresql

All done!
