Expired names only "have value" because you play and promote the game. If everyone let them expire, and nobody ever bought a domain from an auctioneer or hoarder, the whole house of cards would collapse as it should.

Bullshit, people have been snapping up names for a long time. Some expired names have value because the type-in traffic they generate can be monetized. As a matter of fact, people have been using tucows batch registration to grab deleting names for a long time. Tucows is way behind the curve on this.

There is plenty of time for a domain to be renewed. The problem is when companies like Networksolutions.com, domainregistry.com or pacnames.com take advantage and refuse to let a domain be transfered or renewed. That doesn't make the entire process corrupt.

Pool was the industry leader until they rigged the process, started grabbing names and guess what, people stopped using them. Now they've returned to a more open method.

Would you register a name at networksoultions.com or pacnames.com ??

If tucows can get their act together and run a honest auction, they can still catch up and dominate the after market.
