Paying an extra $4 for a domain seems OK: it would be too difficult to move our domains to another registar anyway and, in general, we like TuCows. But paying $40 extra for getting rid of the nagging popup you get for self-signed certificates - I see nothing else to gain at buying a cert - seems way too much.
