And now for something completely different. I had an academic edition of VS2005. I have just upgraded it to 2008 standard. So now I have a full commercial license. I quite like the MFC string-handling, but mostly because I have a strong suspicion that they broke the String.h functions so that they only append rather than recreate. Maybe that's how it's supposed to be. Anyway, they've finally dropped their Java clone. That's one up for the competition. SimonO
