Thanks for the comments, George.  I dislike proprietary parts on
philosophical grounds, although it could be argued that our Drakes use
things like 'proprietary' bandswitches and such.  Ever seen a banswitch
in a Galaxy GT550?  Sheesh, talk about scary.  I avoid 'modern' HF rigs
just because I plain don't like the way they sound, but I have an ICOM
UHF FM rig that the PLL chip is unobtanium, and I scrapped a Yaesu
2-meter rig several years ago that had LCD cancer and I couldn't even
find a part from a junker.  I've seen the scrap heap of 'can't get the
part', and it's real.
