I dislike proprietary parts on philosophical grounds, although it could be argued that our Drakes use things like 'proprietary' bandswitches and such. Ever seen a banswitch in a Galaxy GT550? Sheesh, talk about scary. I avoid 'modern' HF rigs just because I plain don't like the way they sound, but I have an ICOM UHF FM rig that the PLL chip is unobtanium, and I scrapped a Yaesu 2-meter rig several years ago that had LCD cancer and I couldn't even find a part from a junker. I've seen the scrap heap of 'can't get the part', and it's real. 73 Jim - -- Jim Shorney -->.<--Put complaints in this box jshorney (at) inebraska.com nu0c (at) amsat.org Ham Radio NU0C Lincoln, NE, USA EN10ps http://incolor.inetnebr.com/jshorney/ -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: 2.6.2 iQCVAwUBPysDIkCBN4ScxcExAQF18gP9ENgfhVKtK4PTEqvCQpvw+34o/fwYjzYQ S/NjpgLBsOIoww+3AcZOlXV5ZW9hcxJa27YyfxLqzyNAh7xTweIPbWVGtlZscUCo jiNEvGuIYGXIiK4kZ90wBJGPvX7uzYhz6nN0XCQFjd38c174a/dtCtjxUMaF9cPX oKqmelLuNEM= =U6Ew -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Submissions: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subscribe: [EMAIL PROTECTED] - subscribe drakelist in body Unsubscribe: [EMAIL PROTECTED] - unsubscribe drakelist in body Hopelessly Lost: [EMAIL PROTECTED] - help in body of message Brought to you courtesy of TLCHost.net http://www.tlchost.net/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------
