Chuck -

I used LPS1 and LPS2 years ago. I don't think I've ever seen the contact cleaners. I'm sure their products are good quality, but I've been so happy with the D100L from CAIG it would be difficult to get me to switch! :-)

Just a suggestion...

FaderLube, formerly known as CaiLube MCL, is fantastic for pots. It's specifically designed for carbon track pots and leaves them sounding and feeling like new.

The Tarn-X crap on switch contacts is criminal, and should never be done unless you only want to use the switch for display. As you found out! I've tried to have it removed from the HFN site to protect the new guys who haven't been warned. It should NOT be on anywhere, and only proves that NOT all info on the internet is reliable! :-)

The DeoxiT liquid is best, but a little harder to find. IF all you can find is the spray, Don has the right idea, spray a little in the cap and apply with a toothpick or piece of wire insulation. It doesn't take much, and the switch CONTACT is the very thin, bright line down the middle of even black (silver oxide, conductive) contacts.

Don,
Thanks for the warning. I have no doubt you are correct. I've had problems with shorting the rotor switch in a T-4B by breaking down the dielectric in the wafer when using Tarn-x and alcohol for contact cleaner. So warnings should applies to anything you put on the Rotor switch wafers. I figured DeOxit was completely safe. You would assumed DeOxit is a good product by all the thumbs up on Drake web sites. I'm sure it is, but sounds like moderation is an important key. I've been using similar no ox grease products for years on aluminum wire connections. It a must for that type work. I think Sweetwater has the DeOxit Gold ( formerly ProGold) for $4 more. Also the FaderLube spay and needle dispenser.
I've never used FaderLube. Have you tried it ?
BTW I'm not trying to promoting Sweetwater. but their price on Caig products with free shipping is the best I could fine by a good margin.

    Fred,
Use the spray can with caution, as some of us have learned the
hard way. It WILL swell phenolic switch wafers and break the
switch when turned. I spray the DeOxit into a can lid, then apply
sparingly with a cotton swab, toothpick, etc. depending on the
size of the area you need to reach since my experience. I haven't
used it on controls, instead I prefer the Pro Gold, also from Caig.
