Sure they do, just make sure it has nothing to do with travel, security,
etc.
Coming home on my last pleasure trip, the TSA agent was making
conversation, and I said it was a great trip!
He said "too bad you have to go back to work."
I told him I'd been fired.
He said sorry, I said no big deal, my boss was an <expletive redacted>.
He said "I've had that problem."
I said "so you were self-employed too?"
He laughed out loud, and didn't flag me for extra security.
I think being polite, and treating them like a fellow human being goes a
long way. Do what you can to make their job easier.
