Perhaps these would all be plug-ins, but I know I would love these features:

1) Variable interface - some people like tags, others folders, etc. We ought
to be able to choose our preferred presentation/organizational method.

2) Search - gmail has surprisingly poor search, you must type in the exact
word, it doesn't have fuzzy recognition.

3) Integration with other software - for business, integration with Quicken,
QuickBooks, etc., so that invoices can be either attachments or not,
depending on the user's preference or client's requirements.

4) Optional alternate messaging integration - social networking. If someone
sends me a message on Facebook, that should be able to be integrated, but
only if I want it to be.

5) Finally - has anyone noticed that e-mail is no longer truly read in most
instances? Messages are skimmed rather than read. It may not be possible to
solve, however, it might be useful to implement a way to enforce title,
summary and detailed message for e-mail, so that mobile users get the gist,
but can get the full story when at their computer. This can be a writing
style issue, but e-mail interface might help.

Thanks,

Eliot
