Can't you disable them in the Spotlight preference pane?
No. You can only set which kind of results are shown in the spotlight
popup (top right corner) which only shows 2-3 results per kind, but
not in the spotlight window which opens when clicking on "show all".
I have some 100,000 emails in my db, most from Apple mailing lists (to
be able to search them locally).
Of course, this should rather be fixed in Spotlight and not in the
MUA, but...
