SHow results only shows up if you have results, but after opening a search window and searching for your address in it I did see all the mail messages, as you said. I just never use this view, so I didn't think to check it.

The Spotlight popup only shows a few results. When there's more, the window is the only way to get to it.


Adding ~/Library/Mail to the privacy settings even brings up a dialog saying the search feature won't work in "some applications". THis is probably right. What is *not* right is that the preference in Spotlight specifically says "Only selected categories will appear in Spotlight search results" and this statement is wrong.

It's not wrong - it really limits the popup results.
But I couldn't care less whether 2-3 mails show up in the popup - I don't want thousands of emails in the search result window when I look for document files.

So this preference should not limit the popup, but the window.

Yeah. But that's a bug in spotlight and not in the email client. Back to topic again...
