PowerMail from www.CTMDev.com
is more "Emailer-like" than the others. It's what I finally chose after
using [EMAIL PROTECTED] for over 10 years. It's fully Apple Scriptable, so there
is an active user base that makes useful applescripts. Give it a whirl.

Here's one key point; if you get lots of attachments, you need to know
that many email progs save the attachments in the same db file as the
messages. That can create a serious problems when the db gets close to 2
GB and breaks.

These mail programs have a 2 gb DataBase limit (including attachments):
Mail, Entourage, ThunderBird (per folder)... Actually I think I remember
hearing that the newer version of Mail has a 4 gb limit. Not sure. But,
remember that includes attachments!

Claris Emailer, PowerMail & GyazMail save the attached files in a
folder, not in the db file, so although it has a 2 GB db file limit, you
won't hit it anywhere near as soon because all those attachments are
kept separately from the messages.

I currently have in PowerMail:
155,039 Messages
81 Message folders
88 Message Filters
With a mail db size of 904 mb.

Emailchemy from weirdkid.com
is a powerful migration tool that works well. You definitely want it
rather than spend hours/days coaxing your emailer messages out via
applescript from OS 9 Classic mode to OSX proper. It's inexpensive, even
for a single use tool, and well worth it. If you need tech support, I've
found them more than helpful. Requires Mac OSX. Follow the instructions.

If you need IMAP support, the best I have seen so far is Apple Mail.
Most of the others are pretty lame for IMAP, although ThunderBird not so
bad in that regard.

Other email progs you may want to give at least a quick look are
Mailsmith from www.BareBones.com
Gyazmail from www.gyazsquare.com
ThunderBird from www.Mozilla.com (FREE, but NOT scriptable) and
Entourage 2004 - although I don't personally trust it not to implode
under heavy use.

Hope this helps.

Best,
 Dave N
