Manually works! Fantastic!
So now I receive mail. But I cannot send mail (which is my primary
objective ;-) )
It says:
550 Please configure your mail client to use authentication.
SMTP server error "503 valid RCPT command must precede DATA"
What do you think? We're nearly there!!
Try checking your email twice in a row and see if it sends email on
the 2nd attempt. If it does, then POP Authentication is sufficient,
in which case you can just check twice in a row. If the email isn't
sent on the 2nd pass, then Earthlink requires SMTP Authentication.
Emailer does not support SMTP Authentication.
There are some hacked versions of emailer on my web site, one of
which reverses the POP and SMTP order, thus allowing you to not have
to check email twice in a row in order to send (that is the P2
version). Another adds Login type SMTP Authentication to Emailer (P3
version).
However, all the hacked versions are PPC only versions of Emailer,
and since you said you are on a IIvx (or was it IIvi), that would
mean you can't use them. I have no idea if I can make a 68k version
or not and currently lack the time to give it a try. If you are near
northern NJ, I can give you a PPC mac to replace your IIvx, as that
would be the easiest and fastest solution. :-)
You can poke around the emailer section of my website here: <http://
www.mythtech.net/emailer> The hacked versions are in the App Mods
section.
