Set it as the Internet SMTP/POP3 version, that is the correct one for Earthlink. As for dialing, go to the Setup Menu -> Preferences, and set the PPP dialing in the Connecting via PPP option.

Some progress.
Turns out that the box had no PPP or TCP/IP client installed. Reinstalled System 7.6 and specifically installed Open Transport PPP. Also turns out that earthlink has some documents on how to set these up.

Now this happens in Emailer:
Click on "Connect Now"
modem makes the typical noises and the window that monitors PPP progress gives a variety of encouraging messages showing that a connections is established. Then the Emailer log says "Could not resolve the domain name "earthlink.net" because no data was available for reading"

Any thoughts on this?
