1995/7 sounds a lot more realistic.  I ported a major project to Linux 
in 1995 and remember the state of Linux at that time.  RTLinux was 
available around 1997, and I think there was some experimental versions 
out before then.

I also remember getting hit with the 3c503 going the way of the Dodo...

Also... "The MYDATA pick-and-place software consists of 8,000 files and 
150MB of source code."  I would NOT call that a light weight system.
