The gantry weighs almost 80 kg without the milling head. The X-axis is moved with a rotating nut, works very well even though the screw is pretty thin. There are some early build pictures here: http://www.primenta.se/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=66:cnc-projektet-ligen-ig&catid=1:artiklarsenaste&Itemid=1 and some clips on the X-assembly: http://www.primenta.se/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=68:cnc2&catid=13:om-firman&Itemid=1 (never mind the router, it's just temporarly!)
All servo's have the same setup, ballscrew with 5 mm pitch and 60:22 pulleys. It seems that the motors do the job really good even if they are small, I haven't tested aluminium yet but have no fear to do so. I will upgrade to some bigger motors in a very near future anyway, but I'm pretty sure they don't have to be a lot bigger. I will let these go for a couple of weeks to see how they behave when I run long jobs. I don't loose that much money if I change, I have another machine coming up where these would fit perfect. BTW, the encoders are the ones called 103 at http://www.amtencoder.com and they can be sourced at http://www.digikey.com AMT103: P/N 102-1308-ND Linedriver: P/N 102-1788-ND (for differential read) Very good price and Henrik, the guy that gave me them, have them running in very disturbing environments mounted on 130 V / 19 A continous motors without any noise at all. Once again, thanks for all the help. Regard, Sven ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Come build with us!
