OOPS! I left that out of the description. I called the signals "spindle_cw" and 
"spindle_ccw". 

"net spindle_cw motion.spindle-forward=>hm2-5i23.0.gpio.042.out"

This is the correct pin name, but you're forgetting to specify a name 
for the net.  Try something like this instead:
net spindle-fw motion.spindle-forward hm2-5123.0.gpio.042.out

You'd have to do something similar with motion.spindle-reverse
