Assuming that Aram has the SD94P Servo Dynamics drives like the one he
had at fest a few years ago: they have special software for internal
tuning that should serve as a good check of the drive/motor. 
I don't know if the MotionView software runs on Linux. 

If that works then he can move on to checking the signals to the drive.
