Thanks very much for the explanation; it looks like I had some of the axes going in the wrong way. I'm still trying to figure out how I get 1/5 of the movement expected; ask for 5mm X movement, and I get (via dial indicator) exactly 1mm movement. Still some stepconf stuff to work out. Like everything, it'll be obvious in hindsight.... ;-) PS - I'm using the Intel M525DW motherboard, and with hyperthreading turned off, seems to work absolutely fine.
