I got to see Ben Fleming's pulser EDM at the CNC Workshop last June (?) 
in Ann Arbor.
it made amazing progress in steel, much faster than RC EDMs.  I think it 
could probably
remove a small tap in 15-30 minutes, and made just a little sizzling 
noise, like cooking
bacon.  Nowhere near 140 dB!  He has a book and a blank board, I am 
working on
making one.
