That lack of "gas stations" seriously impeded things here when the dual fuel carb conversions were being done in the 60's & 70's. When I lived in Carrol NE in the 70's, there were two LPG vehicles in town. A ford pickup the local propane dealer had, and the Conoco Gas stations tank wagon used for delivering farm fuels. I observed the teardown of the 327 chevy engine in it during a slow time of the farm year. It was then around 10 years old running on LPG, had 210k miles on it, and countless hours just above idle as it sat and pumped the fuel. It was clean as a whistle, and the ridge at the top of the cylinder was about what you would expect for a gas burner with 35k miles on it, given that its OEM air cleaner was an oil bath. They trimmed the ridge, ordered a set of 2 under bearings and put it back together with an aftermarket paper air cleaner. Same rings. AFAIK, its still delivering #2 if the frame hasn't rusted in two by now. When I was there in 2007 as my oldest daughter was dying, his kid was now running the gas station and that tanker was still sitting behind the station. Some things never change in small town America. Might be 300 people in town on Friday evenings when the only bar in town puts on a fish fry. Cheers, Gene -- "There are four boxes to be used in defense of liberty: soap, ballot, jury, and ammo.
