I find that when tracking down noise, scopes don't usually help all that
much.  Poking a probe into the circuit often screws things up pretty badly.

I do have a scope that probably would catch the noise if I was smart enough
to use it, but it was $25k USD new.  If the noise was harmonic, you could
probably see that using the FFT mode.
