Yup, the last half of the roll laying around until it cannot be unrolled to use. No toolbox is complete without a roll of that stuff. ;-) > I use these magnets for all kinds of things - e.g. my large lathe has > dial indicators held on by magnets (via an intermediary bit of > aluminium) and they still work very well 15 years later... (I keep > meaning to get a good DRO for the lathe, but these dial indicators are > just fine) I've installed homing switches on mine, but have yet to figure out a good way to calibrate the actual cutting tip position when swapping QC holders for this and that operations. What I need is another 4 or so tool holders so I never have to take a given tool out of its holder, just re-chip it. So, like everyone else, I make a test cut, measure and do a touch-off, sometimes several times because I keep forgetting the touch off is in radius units. Once that has been done, then the DRO is right there on screen. But I do use a magnetic base .0001" indicator to tweak the jaw tensions to get as small a run-out of the workpiece as I can, sometimes getting within the .0002" wobble range if I peck at it long enough.
