You are having an amazingly bad experience with OS X, but given how well OS
X seems to be working on others' systems, I suspect there is a more serious
problem with your system. Have you tried:
1. Running disk first aid to ensure that there are no disk problems
(frequently a problem if there had been an OS 9 crash in the past)
2. Reinstalling OS 10 and ensuring that you have installed all the updates
to 10.1.5?
3. Checked to see if there are problems with a) your hard drive, b) the
network you are on. An intermittent hard drive problem could cause the
issues you are encountering, and might be somewhat more likely to be
experienced under OS X than 9. Likewise, LAN connectivity issues could cause
the system to pause for long periods of time, and appear to be a frozen
system.
