Actually, I now realize that I had that option turned off until recently.
And I view almost all my Entourage messages (99.5% of the time) in the
preview Pane so I never double-click them anyway. That must be why I've
never seen this.

The issue of "Entourage" having the "nasty habit" may not be quite correct:
it may be that the OS's perception of double-clicks and the speed "Key
Repeat Rate" and "Delay Until Repeat" in the (Panther) Keyboard System Prefs
may play a part. It could be that you have it set too slow or too fast (for
Entourage, anyway).
