Would that I were that sophisticated a Mac user to understand or do all that; which is not the case.

I’m sorry not to have mentioned it; OS X is using me it seems.

Nasty habit or not, I followed these instructions and unchecked the preference; only time will tell but I have a strong feeling this may be it; thank you.

The Dummie responds but very timorously: I’m certain on this..I cannot get mail to open without a double click. Where have I gone wrong? Nothing “interesting” has happened to me but looking at this just quoted word which appears with smart quotes reminds me of another question; how do I get straight quotes to work in my composed email? Have I been “looking for quotes in all the wrong places”?
