Having used Minolta X700s from about 1983 to 1995, then lots of EOS from 600 through 10, 50E, EFM to EOS3; I have fairly recently added to my collection some older Nikon designs such as the MF FG and more recently the AF N8008. Both seem well built but DoF preview is handled much better by the better EOS bodies. Whilst there is simply no comparison between the EOS600 fitted with a USM lens and the N8008 with its noisy pin-drive, what I do get on the N8008 is a high eyepoint viewfinder. Needing to wear spectacles all the time I find this rather useful - and I'm not sure whether any EOS finders offer this - it's not the same as dioptric correction. (The old MF Canon F1 offered a special viewfinder with a high eyepoint.)
