There doesn't seem to be a report on it in photodo yet.
I seem to find only a few reviews and subjective reports,
and one comparing it against Tokina 19-35, which is
obviously a much poorer lens.
Could someone recommend any more thorough report?
In particular one comparing it against Canon's offerings?

One feature of Canon's better lenses I've grown very fond
of is full-time manual focus. Sigma advertizes something called
"One Touch dual focus system" - is that the same thing or
what, and how well does it work (esp. in comparison with Canon)?

The Sigma is also both bigger and heavier than either Canon 16-35 or
17-40, and needs different filters.

That's exactly what I'm thinking about - except that there aren't many
2nd hand 17-40's around yet, indeed even new ones are in short supply:
cheap places in Europe I've asked tell me it'll be July before they
can deliver one. :-(

But even in new prices the difference is less than 200 euros
(about 900 euros for the Canon and 730 for the Sigma).

Not to kill for but nice to have nevertheless.

So it seems to boil down to this:
Sigma is wider and cheaper,
Canon is optically better and smaller.

Springing for the 16-35/2.8 is yet another option,
but the price differential is rather prohibitive.

As it happens I have actually bought a used Sigma a few years back
(600/8 mirror tele), and I could consider doing so again, but I'd
rather like to be able to see and try the thing first - buying
2nd hand via mail order from overseas is a bit risky.
