Hi Tapani, If you are not in a hurry I would wait and see what happens with the supply of used EF 17-40 4L zooms. If it's anything like the EF 70-200 4L zooms the supply for both new and used lenses will be plentiful soon enough. For the relatively small difference in cost you're correct, the trade off is really about image quality vs. a slightly (though important for some with digitals), wider FOV. I would buy a used Sigma only if I could see it and use it beforehand and it came with some kind of warranty or return period. On the other hand I've purchased MANY used Canon lenses on-line sight unseen (including two EF 300 2.8L's one EF 300 4L, two EF 300 4L IS, three EF 28-105 3.5-4.5USM's one EF 135 2L, one EF 20 2.8USM and GOK what else!), and all of them have been 100% good. Don't even consider buying a used Sigma from overseas unless it comes from a reputable dealer that will back it up with a return period.
