Here are few photos of a Coupe that was on the ground (maybe tied down) when the wind got it. I think they make your point. You will note that the tail was not strong enough to take the impact of flipping over and collapsed. This greatly reduced the straight line between the cowl and the rudders.
We are back to the old story shoulder harnesses are great, but may have some draw backs. I wouldnt have wanted to be wearing a shoulder harness in that Coupe and be held upright, but if I hit something head on I sure would want them. How about a good heavy steel roll bar? It would only add 30-40 pounds.
