here is how it's really done - a few years ago my son ( a funeral director )
asked if I could do this in the Ercoupe - I had never done it before and THE
VERY NEXT DAY - someone on this forum explained how to do it -- I've done it
several times and all worked well.
First in this area you must be 3 miles out to sea to do this
Get a biodegradable paper bag and put a piece of cardboard in the bottom and
put a small hole in the bottom -- get about 30 feet of biodegradable string
and put it in the bag from the outside and tie a knot just inside the bag.
Place the remains in the bag and squeeze the top together, do not twist,
then rap the 30 feet of string around the top of the bag leaving about 6
feet of sting hanging.
Tie the end of the 6 feet of string hanging out to your or your passengers
seatbelt at the appropriate moment take the bag hold it out the window and
lower to the wing and let go
The bag will unravel and at the end of the 30 feet will "explode" the
remains over the ocean. You will feel a tug on the belt when this happens
then just cut the line and let it go or if you wish bring the line back in
as the bag and contents will be gone.

Hello H-Tails,
I noted the letter relating to dispersing "cremains" (that's how our
package with 1/2 of one of my mothers in law in it is labeled - she has
been lingering in my darkroom for far too long). I wanted to ask about
technique. I've read and heard the horror story of using a Cessna and
finding the dear departed blown into the aircraft. I dreamed up a
procedure whereby I'd make up a heavier-than-water container,
biodegradable, of course, for her and fly her out over the ocean (my
'Coupe "resides" 3 miles from the ocean), have my wife put the box on the
wing walk, or perhaps just beyond, and then maneuver to slide her off and
drop her into the sea (her wish). Any thoughts, suggestions, anything??
Thanks,
J. Beach
