Roy; You said a mouthful. My contention is that the aircraft will carry the weight just as well without the paper GW increase. If the object is just to be "legal" I can't justify the costs. The O-200 conversion is, for me, a no brainier, though. Someone please enlighten me of your varying opinions and remember I'm not telling anyone to violate the laws.

The conversion items to be complied with that convert a C to a D have nothing to do with structural integrity. They have to do with conforming to the D Type Certificate and therefore allowing the higher operational gross weight. The conversion to a D model which includes the higher weight change will tip you over the scales for LSA and quickly depreciate your aircraft. I must ask you though, is the piece of paper going to make the structure of your airplane any stronger? I doubt it, and would challenge anyone to prove me wrong.
